Rank Math is a completely free plugin that has quickly become popular in the WordPress Plugin Directory. It is a revolutionary SEO plug-in that combines the features of many SEO tools into one package and helps you increase your traffic by providing effective control over your on-site SEO. I will talk about advantageous settings. The methods I have described below are based on my personal experience. During installation, there may be different options to consider, depending on the type of website.
On the right side of the screen there is an accordion that named “More”.. This accordion checks the Php modules that Rank Math may need while working. Rank Math requires a minimum of Php 7.0. It does not work with php 5.6 and earlier. If you get an error, you should go to your hosting panel and upgrade your PHP version. If there is no problem, press “Start Wizard” and continue. (Correction: Rank Math now works with Php 5.6. They solved this problem in the latest version.)
Settings for Local SEO
The second page asks you to enter the structural data for the local seo. If you’re using the “Google My Business Tool” (assuming you’re a local business doing offline), I suggest “Small Business Site” and “Local Business” options. You will also see options for personal blogs and news sites. Once you’ve uploaded your site’s logo and your default image for your shares on the social platform, you can continue.
Google Search Console Settings
This page integrates Google Search Console, a simple process. Rank Math asks you to create an account first. There is no fee. Rank Math is a completely free plug-in and there are no paid extra features. Most features work without membership, but for “SEO Audit” you need an account. When Rank Math is integrated with the Google Search Console, there are some very useful features.
You can redirect deleted or url changed pages that Google already indexed from the crawl errors tab. By assigning a 410 (Content Deleted) response code to such errors, you can get it removed faster than the index without the hassle of 301 or robot.txt.
In this step, you will be asked what kind of pages you want to include when creating the Sitemap. The choice is yours, you can include all your content, but to make a decision based on the density of your site and the importance of your content is recommended. The default setting is optimal in most cases.
404 Monitor and Redirections
This tab asks if you want to use modules that monitor and redirect connections that return 404. It’s a good tool to discover broken links on your site, but you shouldn’t redirect too much links on your site. Instead of redirecting a page you’ve deleted, it’s better to remove or change the internal links to that page. Redirection should only be considered for pages with valuable backlinks.
The next step is “Rich Snippet” settings. First in this step, you have the option to automatically add missing “alt attributes” for the images. I do not recommend. You can benefit your SEO by entering the attributes of each image in a logical and unique way. In the other settings in this step, you decide which “Rich Snippet” type to choose for each page type. “Article”option is best for pages and blog posts. Personal blogs may select for the “Blog Post” option. On e-commerce sites, of course “Product” option will be suitable.
Finally, we came to the page where Rank Math modules are located. On this page you can decide which modules to use.
After this step, you can switch to more detailed settings.
Rank Math Images Settings (General Settings)
The Image Settings (“Images”) in the Rank Math “General Settings” section helps you complete the missing tags of the images you upload to your site.
Add Missing Alt Attributes
As you know, automating in SEO is not recommended. However, sometimes you may not have enough time to do everything on your website manually. This feature of Rank Math allows you to make missing tags a bit more professional.
Once you’ve enabled the auto-insertion of” Missing Alt Attributes”, there is another option where you can specify the format of this tag. This option allows you to define any label on the page or a property variable in the image as a alt attribute. If we approach this point rationally, the missing tags may appear to search engines as original as they were manually entered.
In this setting, you can assign the focus keyword variable “%focuskw%” as the “alt” tag, because the focus keyword must be different on each page. However, since there are usually more than one image in the content, we can enumerate “alt” tags with the variable “%count(variable)%” in addition to the focus keyword variable, for the tags will be the different eachother. In the “Variable” field, you can type any tag that you want to count on the site. I recommend to use “%focuskw%%count(alt)%”.
Note: The keywords you enter for posts or pages have no effect on SEO. Therefore Rank Math does not add keywords to meta information, it uses it for its own internal automation and SEO audit.
Adding Missing Title Attributes
Turning this setting on automatically fills the missing “title” field in the images. The format “%focuskw%%count(title)%” is appropriate.
Note: The “Count” variable starts at 1 and is incremented by 1 for each image on the page.
Rank Math SEO Plugin Link Settings
The Links tab is the first tab in global settings and controls the behavior of links (page url’s) on your website. Rank Math > General Settings > Links
1. Strip Category Base
WordPress pages contain a persistent link text added as the base of categories. For example, for example, in the URL: google.com/general/seo/, “general” is the category name. To make your URLs cleaner, you can remove the category name, from the URLs. If you turn on the setting, the URL becomes google.com/seo/.
Shortening URLs is based on the idea that short, meaningful URLs that appear in search engine results, which are all visible, readable, have a relatively high chance of being clicked. It’s good that the user can only look at the URL and guess what he’ll find on the next page if he clicks. However, both short and keyword-readable, clear readable URLs are ideal for SEO. When creating a URL, you can separate words with a dash (hyphen) for easy reading, but you should not use underscores, spaces, other special characters, and uppercase letters.
2. Redirect Attachments
Enabling this option will redirect automatically generated pages for images and other attachments (video, pdf) to the page where the attachment is located.
Let’s say you have uploaded an image called logo.png to your site. WordPress creates a page for this image at your site.com/logo and stores it in the database just like other post pages. SEO value is low due to the lack of content on such pages. As Rank Math recommends, you can enable this setting and simplify your work.
Can the advantages of “Redirect Attachments” be ignored?
The “Redirect Attachment” feature solves some problems and eliminates a number of benefits. For example, many applications, such as Google, Bing, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and Pinterest, use the structural data of shared media. Also, you cannot link when you share an image directly on social media. It is more advantageous to share the attachment page, it becomes clickable.
Redirect Attachment to Page The “redirect” feature is a practical method that SEO plugins recommend to beginners, but the SEO problems, which are generated by additional pages can be solved without redirection.
Use of Attachment Pages without Redirects
First, you should pay attention to the images you upload to your site. As you know, it is very important to use original pictures. In Photoshop, you can edit file information (File > File Info), save this information, and then easily add it to any image later. Some of this information is automatically added to its image attributes during installation. In addition, you can adjust and compress the dimensions of your image on Photoshop. (jpg 20% is enough.) So you won’t have to deal with image compression plugins.
- After you upload the image to WordPress, fill in the title, subtitle, alternative text and description fields.
- Do not index the attachment pages (noindex), but leave the image-index feature on.
- Enable Rich Snippets for images.
Why do we set attachment (media) pages as “noindex”?
In fact, by doing so, we provide the benefit of “Redirect Attachment” in another way. Instead of redirecting, we prevent it from being indexed. We continue to take advantage of other features of the page. Since our total number of pages does not increase, we reduce the risk of content duplication, and we are not adversely affected by algorithms that measure the distribution weight of any keyword throughout the site, such as TF * IDF.
3. Redirect Orphan Media
If you enable the “Redirect Attachments to Page” setting, you will be given another option called Redirect Orphan Media or Pages, where you can redirect media files that are unattended, that is not linked to any page. You can think of these files as a dead end.
It is better to clean these files without redirecting. You will need an SEO spider for this job, Screaming Frog SEO is works and it’s free.
In addition, your site’s public URL must be consistent to avoid Orphan issues (www, https, http).

4. Remove Stop Words From URL
In computing, stop words are filtered words before or after processing natural language data (text). These are common words that most search engines skip to in order to gain space in their databases and speed up the browsing process. It may be useful not to use these words in titles, URLs.
This feature of Rank Math is configured to automatically remove fill words from URLs. It may be useful, but I think it’s more logical to take a look at words and try to avoid using a precise setting, such as a URL.
5. NoFollow External Links
The “NoFollow External Links” feature adds “nofollow” rel attribute to text links to other sites. It can be useful for friends with little SEO knowledge to check for sensitive links (eg footers) that appear on each page and not be affected by theme-related issues.
The “Nofollow Image File Links” setting adds a “nofollow” attr. to links given through images.
We all know that links from high-authority and relevant sites are a ranking factor. So why not have an algorithm that counts outbound links on our site and evaluates them on our behalf? It already exists, and was proved with this test in 2016..
Links to pages of high-authority sites relevant to our content are a positive ranking factor. It is therefore not a good idea to make all of our links “nofollow”. It is important to stay away from automation as much as possible or at least apply it very carefully.
What is the Best WordPress SEO Plugin?
Rank Math is the best SEO plugin at the moment if you want ease of use, functionality, wordpress, compatibility with themes and plugins and price evaluation. WordPress SEO plugins can be exciting for beginners. It is not possible to feel that success will be guaranteed if the directives given by the plugin are applied if you are newbie. I’m sure many people who read this article have tried some of the known plugins on their SEO life.
Yoast SEO and All In One SEO Pack are the two most popular plugins for years when we search for “SEO Tool”, but there is a new player now; Rank Math! I’ve used it on more than 20 sites for about 9 months and I keep using it. The first reason I gave up the Yoast and All In One plug-ins is because they are paid and complicated control panels. They devote almost half of the admin panel to marketing paid features.
My search for SEO plugins has always been there and therefore I have tried all the SEO plugins I found in the wordpress plugin directory. In most cases, something always went wrong, useless or incomplete. The problem was mainly due to the incompatibility of the plug-in with WordPress’s general structure or other plug-ins. If you’ve been involved in website work for years, it doesn’t take much time to feel that some of the add-ons come from very unprofessional hands.
I put an end to this quest last year because I found exactly the plug-in I really wanted. A plug-in that I can fully control and it’s free! Rank Math. Centers in Singapore, Founder Suraj Vibhute, an Indian entrepreneur. I believe Rank Math will soon become the leader of its market. Usually, such software have similar features, but Rank Math makes a difference for me.
Rank Math Performance
Rank Math is also ahead in terms of technology. It is better than Yoast with its file size, performance and features. Yoast’s codes take 1.5 times more space than Rank Math. This means less PHP request for Rank Math, more speed and freedom to add features.
Rank Math SEO plugin has a user-friendly structure that runs on fast, easy and automatic configuration. You don’t need to spend hours adjusting all SEO configurations, best settings and features already set in the initial setup. There is an initial setup wizard that allows you to manually change configurations and add custom data to your SEO configuration. If you are switching from All in One or Yoast, it is also possible to transfer your settings exactly.
Nobody likes the clutter in the control panels, Rank Math has a clean and simple interface. He doesn’t over-advertise, it doesn’t force you to redirect anything.
Do the keywords still work? I don’t know exactly but RM doesn’t want money to add multiple keywords like Yoast. You can add 5 – according to their weight in the content, the colors of the keywords turn red, yellow, green and do it instantly. You know what’s even more beautiful? It gives you suggestions when adding the keyword. Longtail feature that makes Google keyword suggestion.
It can connect to Search Console and fetch data, showing scan errors. There is no need to mention the XML sitemap and Rich Snippet features. Adjustments can be made within the local SEO. One of my favorite features is that it offers suggestions for in-site linking. It offers suggestions either by title or by keyword, depending on your choice.
