We think and talk a lot about technical SEO. The fact that websites created for different technologies and needs are in constant development, and technical SEO is also constantly on the agenda. There is also the issue of backlinks that, although I have been dealing with websites for years, I was never sure exactly how it worked.

Creating, managing and controlling your backlinks is a critical aspect of SEO and gets harder every day. As Google improves itself, semantic search becomes more important, and frankly, there are no days when I don't feel that old tactics don't work as well as before.

As you know, technical SEO is to make the search engine work more efficiently on our website with its simplest description. Of course, it is not enough by itself, but if your technical SEO is bad, it will not be enough to have very good content this time. As I have always mentioned, everything works together in SEO. It is possible to basically break technical SEO into three parts.

Crawlability

These are physical and software optimizations that facilitate business and increase trust in terms of the ability to crawl websites by search engines as soon as possible and benefit the user experience.

Off Site SEO

They call out-of-site SEO their efforts to configure the links that we call backlinks from other sites or visitors' self-created links. It is largely manipulative. Google still considers artificial backlinks as a ranking factor to increase mobility on the Internet. Even though there is an increase in the ranking of the rising sites by creating artificial backlinks, it starts to decline within 2 weeks.

In-Site SEO

Frankly, I do not have to express SEO with concepts such as in-site, off-site and technical SEO in the daily workflow. Because all these concepts are managed in many cases with similar procedures, even with exceptions. If we are talking about taking a good position in the ranking to attract organic traffic, the most important thing we need to separate our energy from is the user. Because every day, the value we add to visitors can be better distinguished by search engines.

In-site SEO, in simple terms, consists of creating links to distribute keywords appropriately to the pages and associate them with each other.

What SEO efforts does Technical SEO represent? Let's look at this.

Sitemap

You know that the sitemap is important. Sitemaps inform search engines about the site structure and enable them to discover new or dynamically generated content. If you are using WordPress, creating a sitemap is very simple. It is difficult to decide what kind of pages you need to include in the sitemap. As you know, we create the sitemap on WordPress through the SEO plugins we usually use. These plugins allow us to remove the pages we want from the sitemap. What should we pay attention to in sitemaps?

  • Do not include URLs that are incorrect, redirected, or blocked from being indexed in the sitemap. Otherwise, the search engine may not take your sitemap any more seriously.
  • Make sure the sitemap is updated whenever content is added or removed from the site. Never 100% trust plugins even WordPress. Manually check whether everything is working properly from time to time.
  • I will not be giving priority to sitemap based on content type. I don't think Google shakes those values.
  • Set up the sitemap on the Search Console as well. So report your sitemap to Google. You can also show the sitemap location to the bot with the robots.txt file.
  • Check the Google Cache, there may be content types that you accidentally make noindex. It is a mistake I have experienced in the past. To understand this, you can compare how many pages of different sites have cached your site.

Crawl Budget

Beginners to misunderstand SEO, browsing budget has nothing to do with money. It is the source and time that a search engine determines the expenditure to crawl to a site. The crawl budget is based on the idea that a well-optimized site will be crawled faster, and therefore will be crawled more frequently, and will be replaced in the search engine cache in its most updated form.

Duplicate Content

Even pages are one of the most common reasons why browsing budget is wasted. You can discover duplicate page content on your site, pages with duplicate title and meta description tags with the Screaming Frog tool.

Make "noindex" pages without SEO value

Consider whether which pages of your site will make sense in the search results: you can “noindex” pages such as privacy policy, terms and conditions, old promotions.

Site URL

Make sure your site's address is consistent. Choose one version with or without www and direct the other to your preference. So you don't have to add each version to the search console.

Part of your browsing budget is wasted when a search bot lands on a 4XX / 5XX error page. Therefore, it is important to find and fix all broken links on your site. You can find chrome extensions or free online tools that discover broken links. You can also use the Screaming Frog tool in this regard . You should also avoid too many 3xx redirects. Because if the search engine spider discovers a lot of 3xx redirects, it can interrupt crawling and leave.

Site Speed

Needless to say, in fact, it is always good for something to work fast and smoothly. Also, the speed of the site is very important in order to navigate your site in the way you target without distracting your visitors.
